Weekly deliveries of fresh, locally grown, organic produce and other food products began at CEU on July 16. Organized by Sustainable CEU and the Campus Sustainable Advisory Committee (CSAC), in cooperation with Szatyor Egyesulet, a Budapest-based food co-op, this convenient service is now available to the University and Open Society Foundations (OSF) community.

CEU Business School and Chongqing Technology and Business University (CTBU) signed a memorandum of understanding July 3 that offers a framework for further cooperation on a range of possible projects, including executive education programs, student and faculty exchanges, EMBA and full-time MBA programs, and for helping to build world-class management education in southwestern China. The MOU was signed at a conference on local leadership for China and Central and Eastern European countries that took place in Chongqing.

The Center for Higher Education Policy at CEU’s School of Public Policy hosted a delegation from the University of Pennsylvania for two weeks of seminars and workshops in Budapest and Pecs on international education policy. From July 5 to July 17, 21 doctoral students along with faculty members from the Executive Doctorate in Higher Education program at the Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania, were in Budapest to learn about the Hungarian higher education system and to meet with its leaders as part of their International Context Education class.

CEU Summer University (SUN) hosted 462 students from 89 countries and 157 faculty who participated in 18 courses during June and July. SUN offered courses that have been popular for several years, such as Drug Policy and Human Rights, Strategic Human Rights Litigation, and Innovative Financing for Education, all of them organized with the support of Open Society Foundations. The Mental Disability Law course was funded by the Mental Disability Advocacy Center and the Open Society Foundations.

The Communications Office launched CEU’s new institutional website at http://www.ceu.hu on July 24. It features a design aligned with the University’s visual identity, refreshed content and navigation, updated content-management system software, content-reconfiguration abilities for comfortable viewing on mobile devices, and numerous other improvements.

Andrea Peto, associate professor in the Department of Gender Studies, was selected as a member of the International Reference Group of the GEXcel International Collegium for Advanced Transdisciplinary Gender Studies, a research collaboration made up of three Swedish universities. The Collegium’s mission is to become a hub for Nordic, European and international research on transdisciplinary gender studies, provide research infrastructure for scholars, become a meeting place for different generations of scholars in the field, and collaborate with other centers around the world.

Livia Jaroka, a member of the European Parliament representing Hungary and a 1999 graduate of CEU’s Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology, received one of Parliament Magazine’s MEP Awards in June in recognition of her work to tackle racism, poverty, and discrimination faced by Europe’s Roma population. Jaroka was the first representative of Roma origin to be elected to the European Parliament when she won her seat in 2004.

Peter Kondor, associate professor in the Department of Economics, has been awarded a prestigious European Research Council Starting Grant amounting to €1.1 million for a five-year research project entitled "Frictions in Financial Markets." Economics Department faculty and researchers are currently carrying out research projects funded by four ERC Starting Grants.
