CEU has announced the call for applications for its third annual European Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Social Sciences and Humanities. The award, launched in 2011, is the first and only such pan-European honor and is accompanied by a 5,000 EUR prize. To be eligible, a candidate must be an instructor of any rank in the social sciences and/or humanities and currently teaching at a higher education institution in a member country of the European Higher Education Area (http://www.ehea.info/members.aspx).

CEU’s Student Life Office, Residence Center, and the Sports Center invite students, faculty, staff members and alumni to the University’s annual Autumn Sports Day, to be held Saturday, Oct. 5, at the CEU Residence Center. Guests will be able to compete in football (separately for women and men), volleyball, badminton, table tennis, chess, and arm wrestling. Winning teams and individuals will receive awards. Community members interested in competing must register by Wednesday, Oct.

The CEU Choir invites students, faculty and staff who enjoy singing to join. Conducted by Viktor Halasz, the choir performs at a holiday concert in December and at other events. The CEU Library celebrated a new milestone in June when the 10,000th document was requested, so the Interlibrary Loan service is not "ILL" but strong and healthy. Associate Professor Balazs Nagy of the Medieval Studies Department, who made the request, was awarded a bottle of champagne.

Solivagus Publishing House, which specializes in publications on the Middle Ages, agreed to make an annual donation to the Zvetlana-Mihaela Tanasa Fund of CEU’s Department of Medieval Studies. The donation can be used to acquire new materials for the CEU-ELTE Medieval Library and to support research by CEU Medieval Studies students. Solivagus, based in Kiel, Germany, also plans to review students’ doctoral dissertations and other departmental publications for potential publication. Selected dissertations will be published at no expense to the authors.

The IT Department has replaced the computers in computer labs for master’s degree students and in the CEU Library with new, powerful workstations (in labs: http://dell.to/186xxuN, in library: http://dell.to/196lCgI). They are equipped with recent software versions such as Windows 7, Office 2013, and Groupwise 2012.
