A new Hungarian law grants control over research grant awards for basic science to a large government office from January 1, 2015, raising concerns about the independence of the process, according to Professor Janos Kertesz of CEU’s Center for Network Science.

CEU’s Center for Network Science and Cognitive Development Center were the first two recipients of Horizon 2020 research grants announced recently. The Center for Network Science won a Collaborative Research Grant under Future and Emerging Technologies (FET ICT) for its research project entitled “CIMPLEX: Bringing CItizens, Models and Data together in Participatory, Interactive SociaL EXploratories.” The purpose of the project is to do basic research on ICT related data about diverse spreading phenomena in the society from diseases to innovations.
