The Senate approved the appointment of Bela Greskovits and Gyorgy Gergely as University Professors. The Senate elected Niels Gaul as a member of the University Library Committee, Prem Kumar Rajaram as a member of the Scholarship Advisory Committee, and Mathias Moschel, Hedvika Janeckova, Marieke Jule Frohlich, and Olga Mun as members of the Equal Opportunities Committee.

CEU mourns the loss of alumnus Tamas Kubik, who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly this week. Kubik graduated in June 2014 with a master’s degree in Nationalism Studies.

CEU alumnus Ezra Chiloba Simiyu (DPP ’08) was named Commission Secretary and CEO of Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on January 12. A specialist in electoral governance and political management, Chiloba is former deputy team leader at Drivers for Accountability, a senior fellow at the Policy House and a member of the Law Society of Kenya. He replaces James Oswago and his deputy Wilson Shollei, who were suspended for impropriety in Kenya’s March 2013 elections.

The Provost’s Office invites nominations for the CEU Distinguished Teaching Award, an annual award honoring Distinguished CEU Teachers. CEU students, alumni and faculty members are invited to nominate candidates for the award. Eligibility and Criteria for Selection Full-time and part-time faculty members who have completed at least six semesters of teaching at CEU (irrespective of the exact load) and are under a valid teaching contract with the university during the respective academic year are eligible for the award.
