Registration for CAW foreign language courses is open.
Language courses are available in Hungarian, Chinese, French, German, Italian and Spanish at various levels.
Registration: until October 1
Start date: October 4, 5 or 6, depending on the course schedule
Length: 10 weeks, two 90-minute sessions a week
Course fee: 45,000 HUF for all courses, except for the Hungarian beginner course that costs 28,000 HUF for CEU students, staff, faculty, researchers and alumni, and the Chinese course which costs 10,000 HUF

The Nador 15 Ground Floor cafe, Estratto, has opened. A 20% discount is offered to everyone from CEU, including alumni. The cafe is now operating with its full selection of products and is already active on Yammer and Facebook.

The Institute for Advanced Study at CEU (IAS CEU) is pleased to invite applications for its fellowships for the academic year 2017/18.

This month, CEU's Center for Religious Studies and the Institute for Advanced Study at CEU are launching a new, two-year project entitled “Striking from the Margins: Religion, State and Disintegration in the Middle East.” The project seeks a nuanced and complex understanding of the transformations of religion in relation to related changes in state and social structures, most specifically in Syria and Iraq over the past thirty years.

On September 9, hundreds of students gathered at the Welcome Afternoon to meet and get to know more about student life at CEU. President and Rector Michael Ignatieff welcomed the incoming students to the University. In keeping with CEU tradition, new students pinned a flag on their home countries on a world map, had a chat with former CEU students, and learned about volunteering opportunities. Exciting new student clubs were born, various CEU units and cultural partners were represented at the event.

CEU academic staff members are invited to submit proposals for new teaching, research, or community engagement projects starting in AY 16/17 under the third call of the Intellectual Themes Initiative. The Fall deadline for submission of project proposals is October 26, 2016. Andrzej Baniak, associate professor in the Department of Economics, was awarded the prestigious title of “egyetemi tanar." The appointment, made by Janos Ader, the President of Hungary, is effective September 1, 2016.

CEU’s Opening Ceremony, held September 16, was dedicated to the University’s new students this academic year - 563 starting master’s programs and 94 starting doctoral programs – who come from 110 countries.
“This is a historic moment for the University. I feel the history of this place coursing through my veins. We’re a global university for a global city,” incoming President and Rector Michael Ignatieff said in his welcome address. He acknowledged the “heroic work” of CEU Board Member William Newton-Smith, “who’s most responsible for, after George Soros, the creation of CEU.”
