CEU alumna Victoria Apostol led a group effort that resulted in a public apology by Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca for sexist remarks made during mayoral elections in June 2015.
“It was a great success. We had ten computers, and 13 people,” summed up Daniel Szugyi (MPA ’16). The 13 people who crowded into the Student Computer Lab on the second floor of Oktober 6 utca 7 on June 1 participated in a unique event: crowdsourcing to collect data that will be used to build a database with information about accidents and violations in the garment industry of Bangladesh. The event, which was organized by the Human RigthS Initiative (HRSI) and three SPP students, attracted participants from throughout CEU.

The Human RightS Initiative (HRSI) at CEU seeks volunteers to join their Tutoring Program that aim to benefit students at the Imre Madach Secondary School.
1) Conversations/Presentations in English - similar to sessions in the Anyos Jedlik Secondary School, volunteers attend a 45-minute class and talk about their fields of study and research, interests and hobbies, the university experience and various other topics. All members of the CEU community are strongly welcome to participate!

CEU's Human RightS Initiative has kicked off several programs meant to assist local students in improving their English-language skills, increase their social sensitivity, and prepare for higher education.
CEU's Simona Gamonte, program coordinator for the University's Human RightS Initiative (HRSI), was honored by the Romanian Roma Women Gala (Gala Femeilor Rome) in the category "Human Rights Activist" for her ongoing dedication to and work in the field of human rights. The gala was initiated in 2011 to honor Roma women who work to improve the lives of Roma communities.
