After considerable discussion with the Student Union leadership, University Senate Library Committee, Library Staff, IT Department, and with the support of the Rector, Provost and Dean of Students, the CEU Library is extending its hours on a trial basis to better serve library users. Many factors were considered including: specific requests, current library usage patterns, public transportation schedules in the late evening impacting travel for students and staff, and staffing requirements. The CEU Library continues to increase access to E-books at the request of faculty and for very high use items. The new E-books Guide provides an overview of the e-book collections available at CEU and explains how to locate a specific e-book title – either available in a collection or individually purchased – using search tools.

The CEU Library is a second home to many students and has long been considered one of the best in Hungary, as well as a vital asset to scholars throughout Central and Eastern Europe. Now, with the first phase of CEU’s campus renewal completed, the new CEU Library has a prominent and expanded presence on campus, occupying five floors of the new Nador 15 building.

Submit Interlibrary Loan book request for the Winter Break (December 19, 2016 - January 2, 2017) by November 30, since books borrowed from abroad may take 2-3 weeks to arrive. Most partner libraries provide limited ILL services during the holiday season. If out of the country for the break, please indicate possible pick-up times in the note field. The IT helpdesk has moved from the Faculty Tower basement to the CEU Library in Nador utca 15, room 405. The helpdesk is available for all members of the CEU community visiting the Library. The opening hours match the Library's hours, IT staff are available 8am-10pm on weekdays, and 1pm-7pm at weekends.

CEU received the Digitalization Award 2016 from Siemens Zrt. in recognition of its leadership and accomplishments in using digital technologies to optimize activities across the institution. The prize was presented at the Siemens Gala 2016 at the Varkert Bazar in Budapest on November 24, and was accepted by IT Director Szilard Bedecs. Library Director Diane Geraci was also honored.

There are eight bookable, collaboration rooms in the new CEU Library for group work (four on the 3rd floor and four on the 5th floor). Book online, where there's information available on the number of seats per room, or use the QR code on the computer display outside each door (picture attached) to see what is available on that day. Phase 1 of moving the CEU Library to CEU's new Nador 15 building is now complete. The Library features state-of-the-art technology, elegant architectural appointments , comfortable work spaces, and inspiring views both to the Danube and to the interior of the campus.

The new CEU Library will open in October 2016, final opening date will be confirmed later. Library staff are in the process of shifting the most heavily used collections from the closed stacks into the current Reading Halls to prepare for the move so they will be more easily accessible in the new Library. There’ll be room for about 2 years growth for new books in the new Reading Halls. The new Readings Halls will have more space overall than the current Reading Halls.
