The Hungarian Red Cross, with the cooperation of the External Relations Office, will hold a blood drive on Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the TIGY Room (Nador 11, room 006, ground floor, entrance in courtyard). To register, participants will need to produce one form of ID from each of the following three categories: 1) official ID/driver’s license/passport; 2) residence card/residence permit; or 3) TAJ card/EU health insurance card (blue) or national social security card. After being registered, volunteers will receive a simple blood test to determine if they are eligible to participate.

The CEU Choir invites students, faculty, staff and alumni who enjoy singing to join. No prior choral experience is needed, and there are no obligations! The annual International Cultural Festival was organized by the Student Union Jan. 20-25, marking the 10-year anniversary of the event, and the number of countries represented was the highest in its history. During Saturday's International Bazaar, students representing 35 countries and cultures gathered in the Residence Center. During the afternoon all types of traditional products were presented ranging from typical foods and drinks, to traditional clothing, musical instruments and flags, to figures from national television shows and promotional materials.

The Cognitive Development Center hosted the 4th Budapest CEU Conference on Cognitive Development (BCCCD) Jan. 9-10, with 230 participants from all over the world. The event is the only annual conference on cognitive development in Europe. Speakers included Daphne Bavelier (University of Geneva, University of Rochester, NY), who gave a talk on how action video games provide a unique opportunity to identify factors that underlie generalization of learning and principles of brain plasticity.

In its final meeting of 2013, the Senate approved modifications to the External Funding Policy and Application Form in line with the new Policy on research-related teaching waivers and research rewards and in connection with the engagement of CEU academic and administrative staff in projects to be funded under Horizon 2020 Programme (2014-2020). New Guidelines on entry into force and communication of Senate Decisions were also approved.

Closely aligned with the mission of the School of Public Policy, the Passion Project is the culmination of the effort to bridge classroom and skills-oriented learning in a real-world context, develop innovative and entrepreneurial engagement for the public good and have a real, lasting policy impact. Over the course of the two-year program, each student team will identify a concrete policy challenge for a different client and develop a high-quality, policy-relevant product outlining a recommended response.

CEU Business School held the first in a comprehensive 25th Anniversary series of forward-looking events exploring the School’s role in 21st-century management education and thinking on Jan. 9. Established in 1988 as the International Management Center, the Business School became part of CEU in 2002. “We are heading into our next 25 years with a strong foundation as a member of a highly respected, truly international university,” said Mel Horwitch, dean of CEU Business School.

CEU Cognitive Science Associate Professor Natalie Sebanz received a €2 million Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council for her project “JAXPERTISE,” that will explore how humans learn to coordinate their actions with others, and how they learn from each other through collaboration. Sebanz's project will break new ground by identifying the behavioral, cognitive, and neural mechanisms underlying the learning of joint action, with a special focus on music and dance.

The Global Conference on Environmental Studies (CENVISU-2014) will be held April 10-12 in Rome. More than three hundred academicians from 29 countries are expected to attend. Abstracts accepted will be indexed in AWER Index and will be published in Procedia Environmental Sciences (ISSN: 1878-0296, or World Journal on Environmental Research (ISSN: 2301-2641) or Global Journal on Advances in Pure & Applied Sciences (ISSN: 2301-2706).
