Hungarian educational news portal edupress.hu reports: The Hungarian branch of K&H Bank organized its Student Cup yet again this year with 236 teams. The winners of the competition, held for Hungarian university and college students, are two students from Corvinus University and Andras Beres, MA student in the Department of Economics at CEU.

The conscious development of a learning society, essential for shared prosperity, can only be achieved in a liberal democracy, according to Nobel prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz, who spoke at CEU on Nov. 10 as part of CEU’s Frontiers of Democracy initiative.

CEU alumnus Nurbek Jenish (ECON ’09, PhD) has recently been appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic. After leaving CEU, Jenish taught at the American University of Central Asia, heading its Economics Department since 2012. Previously, Nurbek worked at the Asian Development Bank and at the National Bank of Hungary. He also served as a consultant to the World Bank in Washington D.C.
