The Ford Foundation has awarded CEU a $350,000 grant to further expand the University's work on promoting access, rights, and justice for Europe's most marginalized community, the Roma. CEU's Roma programs include the CEU Roma Access Programs (RAP), initiated with Ford Foundation funding in 2004, and a new University-wide initiative for Roma advancement and inclusion.

The Ford Foundation has awarded CEU a $350,000 grant to further expand the University’s work on promoting access, rights, and justice for Europe’s most marginalized community, the Roma. CEU’s Roma Access Programs (RAP) were initiated with Ford Foundation funding in 2004 and now, as RAP celebrates a decade of success, this new grant will provide continued support the Roma Graduate Preparation Program (RGPP) – RAP's flagship program – as well as a new University-wide initiative for Roma advancement and inclusion.

Students of CEU’s Roma Access Programs (RAP) in cooperation with the Human RightS Initiative (HRSI) organized several events to commemorate the International Day against Fascism and Anti-Semitism on November 9. 20 people participated in a guided tour at the Holocaust Memorial Center on November 9, and 50 joined the documentary screening of “A People Uncounted” on November 11.

Sigma Technology Hungary has recently given financial support to CEU’s Roma Access Program that aims to help young Roma students to advance their academic and professional careers. The New York Times cited the Roma Graduate Preparation Program as the “de facto hub for an elite group of young Roma intellectuals” in Europe.

The Roma Access Programs (RAP) held its annual year-end Roma Graduate Preparation Program (RGPP) student seminar on June 16-17, in which all 22 RGPP students presented their final research papers to an audience consisting of their peers, their academic tutors and English teachers, CEU faculty, as well as alumni, donor representatives, and friends of the program.

Joci Marton, who completed the Roma English Language Program and is now graduating from the Roma Graduate Preparation Program, volunteers with Uccu, a Hungarian NGO that facilitates dialogue between Roma and non-Roma elementary and middle school students.
