Hungarian weekly HVG interviewed LGBT human rights activist Tamas Dombos (SOCL '04) about the challenges LGBT people currently face in Hungary. Dombos, a junior researcher at CEU’s Center for Policy Studies (CPS), has been working at Hatter Society since 2007, one of the largest and most active LGBTQI NGOs in Hungary.

A student-faculty team from SPP won a best paper award for their research on drones. Austin Choi-Fitzpatrick (SPP assistant professor) and Tautvydas Juskauskas (MPA '15) received the Best Paper Award for Technical Excellence at the Humanitarian Technology (HumTech 2015) conference in May. HumTech 2015 focuses on bringing innovative solutions to the humanitarian aid community.

CEU Provost and Pro-Rector Liviu Matei assessed the current state of the Bologna Process and its future in a report for the Ministerial Conference of the European Higher Education Area on May 15 in Yerevan, Armenia. Matei, who is also a professor in the Department of Public Policy, presented the findings of his report, which served as a key background document in preparation for the conference.

CEU’s School of Public Policy, the Center for European Union Research, the French Institute of Budapest, and the French Embassy organized a series of discussions at CEU on May 19 to reflect on freedom, religion, and security in the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo attack on January 7, 2015. The event was part of CEU’s Frontiers of Democracy series.

CEU’s new master’s program Global Economic Relations is an innovative and interdisciplinary program which integrates training in international relations and economics. Co-hosted by the Departments of International Relations and Economics, it focuses on deepening theoretical understanding and enhancing students’ skills and knowledge in data analysis, global politics and global economic relations.
