To ensure that all students, especially those from developing countries or regions in turmoil, have equitable access to a world-class graduate education, CEU has developed a robust scholarship program, with around 85% of students receiving financial assistance.

Arlie Russell Hochschild, professor emerita at the University of California, studied Tea Party supporters in Louisiana for five years to learn about the emotional motivation of right-wing sympathies. She shared her findings at her Nov. 25. lecture at CEU, "Strangers In Their Own Land: Allegory, Emotion and The American Right."

As part of a range of both humanitarian and academic efforts to help ease the refugee crisis in Europe, CEU is launching a program offering weekend courses for refugees and asylum seekers in Hungary. Starting January 16, registered refugees and asylum seekers can participate in English courses, academic tutoring to help prepare applications to university, an introduction to life and culture in Hungary, an academic course on human rights, and a course on careers.

CEU welcomed a record number of visitors at its annual Open House: 213 prospective students from as many as 20 countries visited our campus on November 20. Organized by the Student Recruitment Office, the all-day event featured presentations and open classes as well as several new activities, such as a CV Clinic, hosted by the Center for Academic Writing, a CEU quiz and an Instagram competition for CEU prizes. For the first time, the event was livestreamed and over 100 people joined us online.
