CEU’s Department of History, in cooperation with the European University Institute and the University of Vienna, will host the 10th Graduate Conference in European History (GRACEH) in Budapest April 21-23, 2016. The theme of the conference is Resilience, Restoration, Revival: The Endurance of Structures from Early Modern Times to the Present.

University Professor in the Department of history at CEU Alfred J. Rieber's two recent publications, Stalin and the Struggle for Supremacy in Eurasia and The Struggle for the Eurasian Borderlands, explore the Eurasian borderlands as contested 'shatter zones' which have generated some of the world's most significant conflicts.

CEU alumnus and journalist Sebastian Garthoff (HIST ’08) recently published a German-language guidebook to the Hungarian capital. Entitled “Budapest - Zeit fur das Beste" (Time for the Best), the book is a collaboration between Garthoff and Hungarian photographer Daniel Kaldori.
Focusing on Budapest’s iconic sites, the book was described by Garthoff as a lighter counterpoint to the duo’s journalistic work regarding Hungarian society in the Orban era.

Nadia Al-Bagdadi, professor in the Department of History, has been appointed director of the CEU Institute for Advanced Study (CEU IAS), effective August 1, 2015. With this appointment, Al-Bagdadi will take the helm of a very important academic initiative at CEU, bringing her vast academic and leadership experience to this role.

CEU earned the best rankings in its history in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) subject ranking, published April 29. CEU's programs related to politics and international studies jumped to 29th in the world, and 7th in Europe.
