Simon Rippon, who holds a joint appointment in the Department of Philosophy and the School of Public Policy has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, effective December 1, 2016, based on the recommendation of the Provost supported by the Reappointment and Promotion Committee.

Professor Martin Kahanec of the School of Public Policy at CEU has been appointed Member of the Panel of Experts for the European Court of Auditors' EU Labour Mobility Audit. The Audit will concern the freedom of movement for workers in the EU, and the role of the European Commission as a guardian of Article 45 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU and the use of European Programme for Employment and Social Innovation and the European Social Fund in facilitating labor mobility in the EU.

Civil society has been slow to embrace technologies, such as drones, that are opening our skies, observed Austin Choi-Fitzpatrick during a public lecture at the School of Public Policy (SPP) at CEU on May 12. Choi-Fitzpatrick, who was an assistant professor at SPP from 2013 to 2015, is now an assistant professor of political sociology at the Kroc School of Peace Studies at the University of San Diego.

Joanna Kostka, alumna of CEU's Department of Public Policy and currently Visiting Researcher at the Center for Policy Studies, has recently been selected for a lecturer position in Social Work at Lancaster University's Sociology Department in the United Kingdom. Kostka received her PhD (summa cum laude) from CEU in 2015, defending a thesis on 'Going beyond Political Commitments: Explaining Diverging Outputs in the Use of European Structural Funds for Roma Inclusion Strategies in Spain and Slovakia'.

Martin Kahanec, associate professor at the School of Public Policy, has been appointed by Deputy Prime Minister and Czech Council for Research, Development and Innovations Chair Pavel Belobradek as the chair of the Council's Expert Panel for Social Sciences. The mission of the Expert Panel is to verify and evaluate the output of research organizations in the Czech Republic, with the main objective of identifying the most significant research results attaining the highest quality in the respective research area.
