The CEU Library donated thousands of books from its collection to more than 20 Hungarian institutions before it moved into its new premises in October 2016. In the two years leading up to the big move, library staff did the first-ever inventory of CEU’s entire collection and conducted a systematic review of holdings in order to deselect books, multimedia items, and short runs of journal back-files that were no longer needed for a variety of reasons.

Central European University ranks second on Times Higher Education’s list of universities with the highest percentage of international students. The list, published on April 26, features 200 universities around the world based on data collected for the World University Rankings.
CEU currently has almost 1,500 students from 117 countries, and almost 14,000 alumni in 133 countries.

Nobel Prize-winning novelist Orhan Pamuk visited CEU on April 21 for an informal tour of the campus with President and Rector Michael Ignatieff, faculty, and students. Pamuk was in Budapest as the guest of honor at the XXIV. Budapest International Book Festival.

“There are many different ways into the UN,” explained Martin Nesirky, director of the United Nations Information Service Vienna (UNIS), at the Careers in the United Nations event hosted by the CEU Career Services April 11.

With its stance on migration, Central Europe is back in the limelight, said Jacques Rupnik, professor and director of research of the Centre de Recherches Internationales at Sciences Po, at CEU on March 30 as part of the Rethinking Open Society series. Europe should not compromise on its principles, but has to make them adaptable in Central Europe as well, Rupnik said.
