CEU's Nador 13 and Nador 15 buildings, that is Phase 1 of the campus redevelopment project, have received the RIBA International Awards for Excellence 2018. The award has been given to 20 exceptional new buildings in 16 countries all over the world that exemplify design excellence, architectural ambition and deliver meaningful social impact.

The rise of globalism and the expansion of education have created new rifts in societies that make it difficult for low-income, low-education voters to unite under one platform, said Thomas Piketty, professor at EHESS and the Paris School of Economics, who spoke as part of the Rethinking Open Society series at CEU on April 18.

The Network of European Institutes for Advanced Study (NeTIAS) elected unanimously at its annual meeting on April 26th 2018 in Budapest its new President Nadia Al-Bagdadi, director of IAS CEU and Professor at the Department of History at CEU. Last week IAS CEU hosted and co-organized the annual meeting of directors and representatives of some 21 European Institutes and the conference of EURIAS fellows.

At their quarterly meeting in March 2018, the CEU Board of Trustees voted unanimously to elect Margaret MacMillan as a CEU Trustee effective summer 2018, and Robert Prichard effective spring 2019. The Trustees also voted unanimously to name Matthew Nimetz Trustee Emeritus.

Ten students of the Department of Legal Studies’ Human Rights and Comparative Constitutional Law programs participated in the Vienna Human Rights Model United Nations (VHRM MUN) on April 11. MUN is a simulated session of the UN Human Rights Council, organized by the University of Vienna and the Academic Council on the United Nations System. MUN took place at the Vienna International Centre, the campus and building complex hosting the United Nations Office at Vienna.
