Professor Janos Kertesz has been appointed head of the new Department of Network and Data Science. Kertesz already directs the PhD in Network Science program at CEU.

As part of the Intellectual Themes Initiative, CEU offers four new joint PhD positions this year. The new doctoral programs are interdepartmental: the admitted students are expected to take courses from both participating units and conduct research at the crossroads of those disciplines.

CEU Center for Network Science (CNS) Visiting Professor Albert-Laszlo Barabasi received the Senior Scientific Award last week at the 2017 World Conference of Complex Systems (CCS) in Cancun, Mexico. Barabasi was honored for his outstanding work in the field of complex systems.

Albert-Laszlo Barabasi, visiting professor at CEU’s Center for Network Science and the Department of Economics, was awarded the Gabor Denes Prize, an honor presented each year to Hungarian scientists who have demonstrated extraordinary innovation. The prize is named for physicist, electrical engineer, and humanist Dennis Gabor (1900-1979, known as Gabor Denes in Hungarian), who won the 1971 Nobel Prize in Physics for inventing the hologram. The award was presented to Barabasi and 12 other scientists on Dec. 22 at the Hungarian Parliament.

Professor Janos Kertesz, director of the Center for Network Science at CEU, has been appointed Benjamin Lee Professor 2016 at the Asian Pacific Center of Theoretical Physics.
During his tenure, Kertesz hosts lectures on complex networks, the dynamics on and of networks and cascading phenomena between May 23 - June 4, 2016.

Hungarian daily Uj Neplap reports about the experiences of Orsolya Vasarhelyi, PhD student at CEU’s Center for Network Science, one of the winners of the Bridge Budapest Fellowship for Talents. The one-month fellowship is for Hungarian university students and journalists to gain practical experience at the founding companies of Bridge Budapest: NNG, Prezi, and Ustream.
Vasarhelyi accompanied her mentor from NNG Global Infotainment Technologies to Dubai, India, South-Korea and Japan to see different business environments in action.
