The role of research administrators in universities or institutions is now more important than ever, given the increasing need for external research funding. Administrators’ work can make or break a project and define an institution’s collaborations, since cultural and procedural differences in dealing with project administration are inherent to European research consortia. Projects simply cannot perform without efficient processes.

The Erasmus+ Staff Mobility for Teaching grant enables CEU faculty to spend a teaching period at an Erasmus partner institution. The exchange should be completed by September 30, 2016.

CEU administrative employees are eligible to apply for Erasmus funding for training at a partner institution or participation in conferences or workshops. The deadline for this first application cycle is June 30.
The staff training must be carried out at a Higher Education Institution (HEI) that is a holder of an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education or any public or private organisation active in the labour market or in the fields of education, training and youth.

Teaching is an essential element of a career in academia and so acquiring teaching experience is a very important part of the training for such a career. Launched in March 2015, Global Learning Fellowship is a CEU initiative administered by the Academic Cooperation and Research Support Office (ACRO) aimed at helping CEU PhD students and recently graduated alumni improve their teaching skills.

"Research in this area will explore new forms of innovation and strengthen the evidence base for the Innovation Union, the European Research Area and other relevant EU policies. It will also promote coherent and effective cooperation with third countries. Finally, it will address the issues of memories, identities, tolerance and cultural heritage. To promote new ideas, strategies and governance structures for overcoming the crisis in Europe is also covered by this challenge."

At the request of the Provost, the Academic Cooperation and Research Support Office (ACRO) has launched a new initiative that helps doctoral students with obtaining external funding for their research and travel expenses. While CEU provides its doctoral students funding for stipends, as well as research costs, travel and write-up grants, finding additional funding opportunities for their research might also be useful. ACRO aims to actively help PhD students to seek and manage external funding as principal investigators.

The European Research Council (ERC) has published the Consolidator Grant 2015 call with an application deadline of March 12, 2015. The scheme is designed to provide support for excellent, mid-career researchers who wish to consolidate their independent research program. ERC seeks innovative, novel and highly promising project ideas. Maximum EU contribution is EUR 2 million per project for up to 5 years.
