Andras Hann, MA student in the Department of Economics, published an article on Hungarian news portal magyarnarancs.hu about the planned congestion charge in Budapest. Hann argues for the need of such an initiative, providing also an overview of other European cities’ practice in this issue.

Provost/Pro-Rector Liviu Matei presented the 2015 CEU Award for Outstanding Research to Professor Botond Koszegi of the Department of Economics at CEU’s 25th Academic Year Opening Ceremony on September 21, 2015. Similarly to the Yrjo Jahnsson Award Koszegi received earlier this year, the CEU Award for Outstanding Research also recognizes his contribution to the theoretical foundations of behavioral economics, and its application to public finance and contract theory.

Co-hosted by the Departments of International Relations and Economics, it focuses on deepening theoretical understanding and enhancing students’ skills and knowledge in data analysis, global politics and global economic relations.

CEU earned the best rankings in its history in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) subject ranking, published April 29. CEU's programs related to politics and international studies jumped to 29th in the world, and 7th in Europe.

Budapest, March 17, 2015 – The European Economic Association (EEA) and the Yrjo Jahnsson Foundation named CEU Professor Botond Koszegi the winner of the 2015 Yrjo Jahnsson Award for his contribution to the theoretical foundations of behavioral economics, and its application to public finance and contract theory. The award is accompanied by a €20,000 prize from the Yrjo Jahnsson Foundation.

CEU Business School and the Department of Economics, in cooperation with IBM, is launching a new Master of Science program in Business Analytics. In development for over two years, the state-of-the-art one-year program will commence in September 2015.
The cross-disciplinary MS in Business Analytics aims to develop the skills and competencies needed for creating value in a business setting from data analysis.

With the bond-buying program announced last month, the European Central Bank (ECB) has sought a middle ground between calls for more aggressive monetary easing and warnings against excessive measures, ECB council member and Austrian Central Bank Governor Ewald Nowotny said Feb. 2 at CEU.

The President of the Republic of Moldova Nicolae Timofti presented CEU alumnus Sergiu Botezatu (ECON ’94) with the Meritul Civic medal in recognition of his work with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on November 27, 2014. Botezatu has served as a Senior Project Management Specialist for USAID for nearly 14 years, and is also a supporter of the CEU Alumni Campaign.
