CEU’s new master’s program Global Economic Relations is an innovative and interdisciplinary program which integrates training in international relations and economics. Co-hosted by the Departments of International Relations and Economics, it focuses on deepening theoretical understanding and enhancing students’ skills and knowledge in data analysis, global politics and global economic relations.

CEU is again taking part in the Allianz Summer Academy (ASA). The theme this year is Europe at a Turning Point: Economic Crisis, Social Disintegration, Political Change. Teams from five universities are preparing reports on topics related to this theme that will be presented and discussed during the first days of the Summer Academy at the Allianz Management Institute (Kempfenhausen).

CEU earned the best rankings in its history in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) subject ranking, published April 29. CEU's programs related to politics and international studies jumped to 29th in the world, and 7th in Europe.

CEU alumna Rasa Ostrauskaite (IRES ’01 MA, ’07 PhD), deputy director of the Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe (OSCE) Conflict Prevention Centre in Vienna, held a lecture titled “The Role of the OSCE in Conflict Prevention and Management: New Challenges?” at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan March 3.

Fourteen CEU students and faculty had the opportunity to join representatives of five other Hungarian universities and attend an informal meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel during her visit to Budapest on Feb. 5. The event was hosted by Andrassy University Budapest.

Bela Greskovits, professor in the Departments of Political Science and International Relations and European Studies at CEU, was awarded the Bibo Istvan Prize by the Hungarian Political Science Association. The prize honors extraordinary achievements in the field of Hungarian political science.

CEU alumna Bermet Tursunkulova (IRES ’99) has been appointed Deputy Minister of Education and Science for the Kyrgyz Republic.
Appointed on October 27, 2014 by order of Prime Minister Joomart Otorbaev, Bermet will now oversee issues related to higher education in Kyrgyzstan.

As an expression of CEU's commitment to strengthen the humanities, a call was issued earlier this year inviting proposals by CEU faculty members. The aim of the Humanities Initiative is to provide incentives for new cross-departmental and interdisciplinary research and teaching activities in the humanities (and to help existing ones to gain a firmer footing), and to infuse our social science programs with perspectives, approaches and accomplishments taken from the humanities.
