In 11 years, Verzio Film Festival has shown more than 600 films from 60 countries which were seen by more than 60,000 viewers. Verzio, held annually by the Open Society Archives at CEU and Verzio Film Foundation, is the only human rights documentary film festival in Hungary. The festival is a committed promoter of democratic values, rule of law, human rights, and critical thinking, showcasing creative documentary films from all over the world addressing important social and political issues. The films are accompanied by debates with filmmakers and human rights activists.

Over 120 guests gathered at OSA on April 9 for the first Hungarian preview of Laura Poitras’ Oscar-winning documentary, CitizenFour. Co-hosted with the Center for Media, Data and Society (CMDS), and with a professional audience of journalists, lawyers, civil society activists, academics and students, the event began with a half-hour live discussion over Skype with Anthony Romero, (executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union, and Edward Snowden's lawyer in the US) and Gill Phillips (director of editorial legal services, The Guardian).

Open Society Archives’ Yellow Star houses program has been nominated for the Highlights of Hungary Award by Super Channel. The program run in 2014, the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian Holocaust, to explore the history of the Hungarian yellow-star houses, a network of almost 2,000 apartment buildings where 220,000 Budapest Jews were forced to live for half a year, from June 21 1944.

Open Society Archives’ (OSA) “Yellow Star Houses” program was awarded the Gyorgy Varhegyi Prize for Hungarian Jewish Education by the Hungarian Jewish Cultural Association (MAZSIKE) on Dec. 11. On the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian Holocaust, the “Yellow-star Houses” initiative explored the history of the designated places of residence for the Jews of Budapest. In September 2014, OSA’s virtual exhibitions on the yellow-star houses were featured on Google's Open Gallery.

Truth and Objectivity Film Laboratory, is a unique film series that runs through November 20 and aims to explore documentaries associated with historical truthfulness and objectivity. It's related to the CEU course Historiography: Themes in Its History and Approaches to Its Theory.
