CEU alumnus Adam Bodnar (LEGS ’01) was elected Ombudsman by a vote of the Polish Parliament in July 2015. After the Senate confirmed his appointment, Bodnar took office on September 9. According to Polska Newsweek, he will serve as “the vanguard of change, warn politicians against potential risks to individual rights, and criticize when they take actions that threaten them.”

CEU alumna Victoria Apostol led a group effort that resulted in a public apology by Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca for sexist remarks made during mayoral elections in June 2015.

CEU alumnus Uchenna Emelonye was appointed Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Uganda on May 1, the latest step in a career dedicated to the creation of open societies and the rule of law in Africa. His studies at CEU, where he earned a Master of Laws in Human Rights in 2004, remain relevant and useful, Emelonye said.

David Nagy (LEGS ’13), who studied International Business Law, represents the new generation of Hungarian politicians in Slovakia. In addition to working as a legal associate, he has also become a member of the city council of his hometown, Nove Zamky, a town of 40,000 inhabitants.
