CEU alumnus Nurbek Jenish (ECON ’09, PhD) has recently been appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic. After leaving CEU, Jenish taught at the American University of Central Asia, heading its Economics Department since 2012. Previously, Nurbek worked at the Asian Development Bank and at the National Bank of Hungary. He also served as a consultant to the World Bank in Washington D.C.

CEU alumna Rita Csiszar (Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology, 1998/99) is a teacher, linguist, and sociologist. After her “exciting, inspiring and enriching” year at CEU, she did her PhD in Applied Linguistics.”I have spent part of my working life in academia; taking up teaching assignments and working on various research projects in different countries. The most recent one was ELDIA, European Language Diversity for All, at the University of Vienna. My job experience also includes working for NGOs, such as the International Organization for Migration in Budapest.

CEU Business School alumnus Ashwin Kutty (IMM, ’04) was recognized by the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance for leadership of his multimedia design firm, WeUsThem. On May 21 he was presented the Alliance’s Peter Brojde Award for Canada’s Next Generation Executive Leadership, at a special gala in Ottawa.

CEU alumna Maria Danilova (POLS, 03) was recently named a Knight-Bagehot Fellow in Economics and Business Journalism by Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. The fellowship offers qualified journalists the opportunity to enhance their understanding and knowledge of business, economics and finance in a year-long, full-time program administered by the journalism school. Danilova is the chief correspondent for the Associated Press’s Kiev Bureau.

CEU alumna Eszter Hajdu is a documentary filmmaker whose work addresses social-political taboos. Her latest film, “Judgment in Hungary,” is a courtroom drama about the trial of the four neo-Nazis who killed several Roma people, among them a five-year-old child, during the course of one year. The trial began March 2011 and ended in August 2013. The four perpetrators were charged with serial killings with racial motivation. “Judgment in Hungary” was well received at numerous festivals and won a number of awards.

Andras Nemeth has the singular distinction of being the only Hungarian layperson working within the Vatican. He’s a curator of Greek manuscripts in the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, the august Vatican Library, which was inaugurated in the 15th century and attracts researchers from around the globe to view its valuable holdings.

Jakub Parusinski was recently named Chief Executive Officer of the Kyiv Post, Ukraine's main English-language news outlet. His task is to turn a newspaper into a sustainable and profitable enterprise, a difficult task today in any country, but particularly in Ukraine, which he calls one of the most difficult places to do business. Nevertheless, “Ukraine deserves a chance at a fair, democratic and prosperous future,” he says. “Without a free press, it will never have one.”

Yancy Cottrill returned to his native United States recently after working in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, for Anderson & Anderson, an American firm that focuses on international business—Cottrill’s specialization at CEU. In Mongolia, Cottrill helped establish the country’s first credit-rating bureau by drafting the joint-venture agreement, company charter, and accompanying documents.

In Moscow this July, three CEU graduates served as organizers and activism coaches as part of the Strelka Institute of Design’s “Building a Green Campus” summer university workshop. Peter Kiryushin, (CEU ENVSCI’12) originally pitched the idea of the workshop to Strelka Institute’s management, and was assisted by Lea Bambach (ENVSCI’12) and Logan Strenchock (CEU Environmental and Sustainability Officer, ENVSCI’12) in designing the interactive course content.

Raham Madani and Stewart Harvey, graduates of CEU Business School’s MBA and Executive MBA programs respectively, have teamed up to found Greenergizer, a energy consultancy that helps other companies identify ways in which they can become more energy-efficient. Based at CEU Business School’s InnovationsLab, Greenergizer installs sensors in key locations that send energy use data to a central computer that aggregates them for analysis. Problems are identified and remedied, and the sensors can measure the improvement.
