The Center for Arts and Culture (CAC) at CEU is closing Academic Year 2013-2014 with a concert of renowned percussion group Amadinda. Their 30th anniversary show was Amadinda’s third concert at the university.This year, CAC in total organized and/or hosted 41 events, including programs such as Budapest100 (CEU participated with its Nador 11 building celebrating its 100th anniversary).

Six hundred students from more than 70 countries received master’s and doctoral degrees from Central European University at the 23rd annual graduation ceremony June 21. Also at the event, the CEU Open Society Prize, awarded for substantial contributions to the creation of an open society, was presented to European Commissioner of International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response Kristalina Georgieva.

CEU’s annual Graduation Party, the final large community gathering where students can meet faculty and staff before leaving Budapest, is scheduled for June 21 at 9 p.m. at Duna Palota, just steps away from the University’s Monument Building. The event, organized by the Student Life Office, will feature Hungary's representative in the Eurovision Song Contest, Andras Kallay-Saunders and a live DJ. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and their guests are all welcome. Tickets cost 1,000 HUF (incl. welcome drink) and will be available on the spot.

Faculty, staff and researchers can update their own profiles on the CEU website by going to http://people.ceu.hu/user and logging in with their Novell ID and password. Then send an email to the Web Team at ceuwebteam@gmail.com requesting a user role. Upon receipt, log in again and edit your profile as you wish. Include department, center, or administrative unit affiliation (multiple affiliations are also possible), title, contact details, CV, publications, and photo.

More than 100 CEU community members came together from May 19 to 23 to bolster student philanthropy on campus and to aid the next generation of CEU students. During Student Spirit Week, sponsored by CEU Student Union and the Alumni Relations & Career Services, students, staff, faculty and alumni raised hundreds of dollars to purchase equipment for student research and recreation. Participants voted on which projects to support and donated cash to their favorites. On the final day, home-baked treats and lemonade, prepared by students and staff, were offered.

The Senate has approved the following modifications to some of the University policies:
Academic Staff Handbook:
- The deadline for submission of the Individual Academic Activity Reports has been moved to August 15.
- Section V.B. "Workload" has been modified with an aim to reduce the workload for junior faculty to allow them more time to prepare for the review for the permanent contract by the end of the 4th year of employment. Junior faculty would be able to apply for a credit waiver and there would be a possibility of early sabbatical.

The Senate has approved new degree programs to be offered at CEU after registration with the New York State Education Department (NYSED), with a planned start date in September 2015. The Department of International Relations and European Studies (IRES) will offer a two-year MA degree in International Relations, a one-year MA degree in Global Economic Relations is to be offered jointly by IRES and the Department of Economics, and a one-year MSc degree in Business Analytics is to be offered jointly by CEU Business School and the Department of Economics, in partnership with IBM.

It’s time for the CEU community and friends to gather at the 5th Annual CEU Picnic on May 24 at the SOTE Sports Center. The Student Life Office guarantees that everyone will find something fun to do. There will be sport competitions, as well as lots of new activities, such as archery, mini golf, fishing simulator, rowing, Zumba, a health tent with medical check-ups, and more. Those who do not wish to compete can relax, have a massage, drink a healthy juice, enjoy the sun, and cheer their friends and fellow students to victory in the games.

This year’s Spring Ball, with a Havana Nights theme, attracted over 1,000 people. Organized by the Student Union and Student Life Office on May 10, the Ball broke all records so far. Guests boarded the Europa Boat, which cruised the Danube offering spectacular views of the city from its panorama decks. Many people danced to the sounds of the Coolminers band and the live DJ, while others played poker and roulette in the lounge. The program finished with the dancers of the Tropical Show Cuba, and the ensuing party lasted until 5 a.m.
