The Global Conference on Environmental Studies (CENVISU-2014) will be held April 10-12 in Rome. More than three hundred academicians from 29 countries are expected to attend. Abstracts accepted will be indexed in AWER Index and will be published in Procedia Environmental Sciences (ISSN: 1878-0296, or World Journal on Environmental Research (ISSN: 2301-2641) or Global Journal on Advances in Pure & Applied Sciences (ISSN: 2301-2706). CEU has received a renewed Erasmus Charter for Higher Education, enabling students and staff to participate in Erasmus+, the European program for the modernization and internationalization of higher education from 2014-2020. The Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) provides the general quality framework for European and international cooperation activities; the award of this Charter is a prerequisite for all eligible institutions to participate in learning mobility of individuals and/or cooperation for innovation and good practices under the Erasmus+ Programme.

The first calls for the European Commission’s new research and innovation funding program for 2014-2020, Horizon 2020, were published in December 2013 on a new version of the Research Participant Portal website. Most of the 2014 calls are already open for submission, but some will open later in the year. The published Work Programmes also include indicative calls for 2015. Details of the calls are available under different annexes of the 2014-2015 Work Programme, which covers the three pillars: “Excellence”; “Industrial Leadership” and “Societal Challenge”.

The ERC has two open calls for its very competitive grant program. The Starting Grant is designed to support researchers 2-7 years after receiving their PhD for a maximum funding of €1.5 million. The application deadline is March 25. The Consolidator Grant is designed to support researchers 7-12 years after receiving their PhD for a maximum funding of €2 million. The Innovative Training Networks (ITN) aim to train a new generation of creative, entrepreneurial and innovative early-stage researchers. ITN will raise excellence and structure research and doctoral training, extending the traditional academic research training setting, and equipping researchers with the right combination of research-related and transferable competences. It will provide enhanced career perspectives in both the academic and non-academic sectors through international, interdisciplinary and inter-sector mobility combined with an innovation-oriented mindset.

The conference entitled “What We Do: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives on the Aims and Methods of Philosophy,” scheduled for April 4-5, 2014 at CEU, seeks contributions from graduate students on contemporary as well as historical investigations in metaphilosophy. The organizers invite papers with a maximum length of 3,000 words that are suitable for a 20-30 minute presentation. Papers accompanied by a maximum 200-word abstract must be prepared for blind review and submitted in PDF or Word format to philgradconf@ceu.hu by Jan. 17, 2014.
