The Society for Cultural Anthropology (SCA) calls for papers for its biannual meeting, to be held in Detroit May 9-10, 2014. The SCA 2014 meeting will be a forum for wide-ranging engagement on the subject of transformational changes to today’s workplace. The SCA is working closely with Detroit-based colleagues, activists, and artists to create multiple opportunities for engagement and dialogue, on- and off-site. The organizers encourage fully formed panel submissions, but will consider individually submitted paper proposals as space allows.

Romania’s New Europe College – Institute for Advanced Study has announced a call for applications for fellowships for Academic Year 2014-15. Applicants holding a PhD or doctoral students in an advanced stage of research in the humanities, social studies, or economics, are eligible. Working languages are English, German, and French. Duration can be one term or the full academic year. The fellowship package includes a tax-free monthly stipend of €600, accommodation, round-trip transportation, and seasonal holidays.

This conference, scheduled for April 25-27, 2014, at Sabanci University in Istanbul, seeks to explore the ways in which people’s memories of 20th-century wars, genocides, and other forms of political violence are influenced by gender. The conference is open to young researchers from all disciplines and backgrounds. Students working on their MA or PhD thesis, recent graduates, and young independent researchers are encouraged to apply.

CEU administrative employees are eligible to apply for Erasmus funding for training at a partner institution or participation in conferences or workshops. The deadline for this second application cycle is Oct. 31. The duration of the exchange must be five working days. Shorter stays are allowed in the case of conferences, seminars, and workshops. The CEU Visiting Research Fellowship program, supported by the Higher Education Support Program of the Open Society Foundations, is aimed at academics employed in higher education institutions in selected countries (list of eligible countries attached). Fellows can be hosted by any CEU school, department, or research center for three to six months. Fellowships cover travel costs to and from Budapest, accommodation, and a monthly stipend of $1,800 per month. The application deadline is Oct. 1, 2013.

The CEU Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) invites applications for its Senior and Junior Core and Humanities Initiative fellowships for the Academic Year 2014-2015. The application deadline for all three fellowships is Oct. 20. For the Academic Year 2014-15, the theme will be “Comparisons.” IAS does not require that fellows do comparative research. This is not part of the selection criteria. The theme is designed as a catalyst for intellectual conversations on doing empirical research and producing social theory.

Data Stories, a research visualization exhibition, seeks submissions from the CEU community to contribute beautiful and useful displays of information about social-scientific phenomena. The initiative provides an opportunity to share knowledge, insights, and ideas through a coherent dialogue over a common necessity and passion—data visualization. The call is open from September 16 through November 2.
