Organized by the Roma Initiatives Office and the Think Tank Fund, this program supports young Roma MA and PhD graduates in the social sciences and humanities to develop new skills under the guidance of experienced research staff at mainstream think tanks.

Research fellowship opportunities are available as part of the EURIAS (European Institutes for Advanced Study) program. The Fellowship Program offers 10-month residential fellowships at one of the 16 participating institutes, including the CEU Institute for Advanced Study. The program welcomes applications from promising young scholars as well as from leading senior researchers. The institutes for advanced study support the focused, self-directed work of outstanding researchers. The application deadline is July 5.

CEU administrative employees are eligible to apply for Erasmus funding for training at a partner institution or participation in conferences or workshops. The deadline for this first application cycle is June 30. The duration of the exchange must be five working days. Shorter stays are allowed in the case of conferences, seminars, and workshops. The 2013 International Association of Labour History Institutions Conference, entitled “Opening up Social History Repositories: New Technologies and New Methods,” will be hosted September 26-28 by CEU and Open Society Archives. The conference aims to inspire discussions on the new challenges to social history research, curation, and preservation of archival sources, especially in light of recent changes in East and Central Europe and with the advent of the networked information society.

CEU Summer University invites innovative, research-based and/or policy-oriented course proposals from faculty members at CEU or elsewhere. SUN courses are usually taught by a team of five to seven faculty members representing a wide range of geographical, disciplinary, and institutional backgrounds. The target audience is master’s and PhD students, junior faculty and researchers, and professionals. The program aims to help strengthen CEU’s research capacity and academic network-building efforts.

CEU’s History Department Research Initiative on “Labor History for the 21st Century in a Global Perspective” and fellow conference organizers seek paper proposals on Central, Southeastern and Eastern European labor history for the 10th European Social Science History Conference in Vienna, April, 23-26, 2014. Two panels, one on rural labor and another on labor and state socialism are planned, and more are possible. A roundtable discussion on how research from the region can help promote integration into a global labor history is also planned.

The Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology and the Center for Policy Studies (CPS) seek applications for a Special Doctoral Position focusing on the study of integration and international migration. The project is part of, and funded by, the INTEGRIM Marie Curie Network, a consortium of eight European institutions whose research activity is funded by the European Union. The successful candidate will be a PhD student in the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology and an early-stage researcher at CPS, and will receive 36 months of full funding. Applications are due April 15.

The European Commission recently published "Communicating EU Research & Innovation - A Guide for Project Participants," a tool for researchers to better communicate about projects under the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development. The short guide gives examples of successful communication activities, offers a word of warning about commercial organizations seeking to sell their dissemination services, and provides an elaborate checklist to help develop a sound communication strategy.
