CEU has signed an agreement with Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, to promote scholarly, student-exchange, and cooperative-research efforts between the two institutions. The agreement establishes a faculty exchange program focusing on cognitive sciences, history, philosophy, political science and gender studies at both institutions. The EC seeks expressions of interest in order to establish Expert Advisory Groups that will help shape the research agenda and calls for proposals under the forthcoming Horizon 2020 research and innovation funding program from 2014 to 2020. Each group will consist of 20 to 30 experts representative of the broad constituency of stakeholders in EU research programs. The groups will start work in spring 2013 with appointments carrying a two-year mandate. The deadline for submitting an expression of interest is March 6.

The European Cooperation in Science and Technology, known as COST, invites researchers to submit proposals for creating research networks designed for the exchange of knowledge. The support covers the costs of networking activities such as meetings (e.g. travel, subsistence), conferences, workshops, short-term scientific exchanges, training schools, publications, and dissemination activities. COST does not fund the research itself. The proposed network should involve partners from at least five COST member countries. The application deadline is March 29.

Experienced researchers of any nationality are invited to apply for Marie Curie ACTION CIG grants. The objective of the grants is to reinforce the European Research Area by encouraging researchers to establish themselves in a member state or in an associated country, thereby attracting and retaining the best talents in Europe. The grant, which can cover a period of up to four years, corresponds to a flat rate contribution of €25,000 per researcher per year, to contribute to research costs at his or her host institution.

The Conference on Islamized Armenians, scheduled for Oct. 11-13 in Istanbul, seeks abstracts from any discipline or background contributing to the historical debates on the mass coerced conversion of Armenians in 1915 and its aftermath, as well as to contemporary questions of ethnic/national identification, gender, responsibility, or justice. The conference will also address the role of research and scholarship in the difficult processes of facing historical and present forms of violence, discrimination, and injustice.

CEU Summer University invites innovative, research-based and/or policy-oriented course proposals from faculty members at CEU or elsewhere. SUN courses are usually taught by a team of five to seven faculty members representing a wide range of geographical, disciplinary, and institutional backgrounds. The target audience is master’s and PhD students, junior faculty and researchers, and professionals. The program aims to help strengthen CEU’s research capacity and academic network-building efforts.

The International Visegrad Fund and the OSA Archivum invite citizens of the Visegrad countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia) to submit applications for research grants at CEU’s Open Society Archives. The Visegrad Scholarship at OSA program supports scholars, artists, and journalists already holding a master's degree who wish to conduct research in the holdings of OSA for eight weeks or less, and whose projects are relevant to the collections and research priorities of the Fund and OSA. Applications from these countries are due Feb. 15.

This summer, CEU's Center for Academic Writing will host the 7th Conference of the European Association for the Teaching of Academic Writing on June 27-29. The conference is expected to bring together some 300 teachers and researchers of academic writing from all over the world. The Aleksanteri Institute, an independent institute of the University of Helsinki that is also known as the Finnish Centre for Russian and Eastern European Studies, invites applications for Aleksanteri Visiting Fellowships for the academic year 2013‑2014. Scholars holding a PhD degree and pursuing research that relates to the institute's research agenda are eligible for the fellowships, which carry a monthly stipend of €2,600 to cover all research visit expenses over two to three months. The Visiting Fellowship scheme is intended for scholars who reside outside of Finland.
