The International Visegrad Fund seeks proposals for Extended Standard Grant projects within the Visegrad 4 Eastern Partnership (V4EaP) program. The program aims to promote democratization and civil society in the countries of the Eastern Partnership (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine) through medium-term projects aimed at providing access to the experience of the Visegrad Group countries in democratic transformation, EU integration, civil society-building, and regional cooperation. The deadline is noon on Dec. 17.

On the assumption that the relationship between history and time is well established, the Department of History is inviting graduate students and young researchers to reflect on the potentially more intriguing relationship between history and space. The deadline for abstracts is Jan. 20, 2013. Papers will be presented at the 7th Annual Graduate Conference in European History (GRACEH), to be held at CEU in April 2013. The Department of History seeks papers that examine theories of vision and ways of seeing in different historical periods for a conference titled “Current Theoretical Interfaces: Iconicity, Semiotics, Historicity,” to be held at CEU in May 2013. Papers are due Dec. 15. The conference is a joint project with CEU’s Department of Medieval Studies, Pasts Inc., the Open Society Archives, and the Institute of Advanced Study. CEU’s Human RightS Initiative (HRSI) seeks team members for its biggest annual campaign, “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence,” which runs from Nov. 25 through Dec. 10. This year's theme is "From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Let’s Challenge Militarism and End Violence Against Women!" Members of the CEU community can help homeless Budapest citizens stay warm this winter by donating blankets or clothing. CEU’s Human RightS Initiative (HRSI), which is leading the drive, asks donors to deliver new or used blankets that are clean and in good condition to the CEU Laptop Area at Nador utca 9 and place them in a box under the Human RightS Initiative bulletin board by Nov. 30. The blankets will be distributed by several NGOs working with A Varos Mindenkie (The City is for All) on the evening of Dec. 1.

CEU’s Human RightS Initiative invites applications to participate in a one-day workshop, Fundraising for NGOs, on Dec. 1. The workshop is part of HRSI’s Capacity-Building Program, aimed at providing students with practical skills needed to work in the not-for-profit sector. The trainer, Ailsa Spindler, development manager at the European Roma Rights Center, will help participants learn how to develop a successful funding strategy, identify potential funding sources, maximize the likelihood of success, and report project progress to funding organizations.

Andrea Peto, professor in the Department of Gender Studies, and her colleagues seek contributions from scientists, activists, journalists, and authors from across Europe for their planned volume “Gender and Far-Right Politics in Europe.” Preference will be given to proposals from Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and the UK. Interested parties can apply by submitting a short CV and a half- to one-page description of the proposed chapter to farrightgender@ceu.hu by Nov. 30.

Applications for the European Research Council’s Advanced Grant are due Nov. 22. There will be no call for the Advanced Grant published in 2013. Due to the size and scale of these grants, proper institutional preparation is essential.
