SPP Visiting Professor Kinga Goncz has been appointed by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to a distinguished panel on health technology innovation and access. The panel, which is co-chaired by Ruth Dreifuss, former president of Switzerland, and Festus Mogae, former president of Botswana, has been tasked "to ensure that everyone can access quality treatment at affordable costs while also incentivizing innovation and the development of new technologies such as vaccines, medicines and diagnostics."

Andrea Peto, professor in the Department of Gender Studies at CEU, has recently been appointed a member of the Scholarly Advisory Board of the International Tracing Service in Bad Arolsen for the next two years. Peto will consult on new directions and developments in research and education on topics related to the documentation within the ITS and on how to advance the utilization of such documentation within the scholarly arena.

The CEU Board of Trustees has elected a new Trustee, Carol T. Christ, at its most recent meeting on October 18. Christ is the director of Center for Studies in Higher Education at the University of California, Berkeley, and former executive vice-chancellor and provost of the University of California, Berkeley, and former president of Smith College.

The Demjan Group, owned by one of Hungary’s most prominent businessman Sandor Demjan, has donated € 1 million to establish a migration fund to support improving conditions for refugee children currently in Hungary or on the borders of the country. The fund will be used to buy food, clothing, finance domestic travel, healthcare and to produce information materials and assist civilians and authorities who are working to resolve the situation. CEU Business School alumna Borbala Czako (IMC'90) has been appointed to chair the fund.

Diana Urge-Vorsatz, professor in CEU’s Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy and director of the Center for Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Policy (3CSEP) has been elected vice chair of Working Group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the the UN body tasked with assessing climate science.

The Center for Religious Studies has awarded Dr. Alba Fedeli (University of Birmingham) the CEU Humanities Initiative Religious Studies Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship, hosted by the Center for Religious Studies. The two-year position commences this September 2015. Fedeli will be conducting research on Early Quranic Manuscripts and their Relationship as Studied through Phylogenetic Software.

Edit Kalman has been appointed Head of Recruitment, effective August 1, 2015. Edit has been working at CEU since 2008 and served as Acting Head of the Student Recruitment Office during the previous academic year.

The following appointments have been approved by the Senate effective August 1, 2015: The Senate approved the appointment of Tibor Varady as Professor Emeritus. The Senate elected Vlad Naumescu as the new chair of the Ethical Research Committee, succeeding Prem Kumar Rajaram. The Senate elected Karoly Bard as the new chair of the Disciplinary Committee, succeeding Eva Fodor. The Senate approved that Andrzej Baniak’s application for the ‘egyetemi tanar’ title be submitted to the Hungarian Accreditation Committee (MAB).
