The following changes have taken effect recently in the Department of Legal Studies at CEU. Caterina Sganga has been promoted Associate Professor, effective August 1. Mathias Moschel has been appointed Head of the Doctoral School, effective August 1. Moschel succeeds Professor Kollonay, who continues at the Department as Professor Emerita. As of August 2017, Nora Varro went on maternity leave. Her role as a Department Coordinator was taken over by Monika Soltesz (3197) as of August 21.

With effect August 1, 2017, Ildiko Moran, has joined the Rector’s Office, in the continuing capacity of VP External Relations. Ildiko remains as CEU’s chief external representative to the diplomatic and international community and assists the Pro-Rector for Hungarian Affairs as chief external representative to the Hungarian community.

Csilla Kollonay-Lehoczky has been appointed Professor Emerita, effective August 1, 2017. Kollonay-Lehoczky, director of the Doctoral Program, has been a professor in the Department of Legal Studies since 1992. Her teaching and research areas cover labor and social law, European labor law, gender, non-discrimination and equal opportunity law. Through 2013 she was also at ELTE Faculty of Law as professor, the Head of the Labour and Social Law Department. Her international teaching experience covers universities in the U.S. and Europe.

Several changes and new appointments in the faculty of CEU will take effect on August 1, 2017. Peter Hardi has been appointed to the rank of Professor Emeritus. Evelyne Hubscher has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. Martin Kahanec has been appointed Acting Head of the School of Public Policy, effective August 1, 2017, for a one-year period.

Laszlo Kontler, professor in the Department of History and former Pro-Rector for Social Sciences and Humanities, and Hungarian Affairs at CEU, has been awarded a Fernand Braudel Fellowship at the European University Institute in Florence for the period September-December 2017. He was also appointed Leverhulme Visiting Professor at University of Cambridge for the period January-July 2018.

CEU Trustee Carol T. Christ, currently UC Berkeley's interim executive vice chancellor and provost, has been selected as UC Berkeley's chancellor-designate, according to a statement by the university. Her nomination by University of California President Janet Napolitano was confirmed by the UC Board of Regents March 16, making Christ the first woman to serve in the role, becoming the 11th chancellor of UC Berkeley on July 1.
