Simon Rippon, who holds a joint appointment in the Department of Philosophy and the School of Public Policy has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, effective December 1, 2016, based on the recommendation of the Provost supported by the Reappointment and Promotion Committee.

Professor Martin Kahanec of the School of Public Policy at CEU has been appointed Member of the Panel of Experts for the European Court of Auditors' EU Labour Mobility Audit. The Audit will concern the freedom of movement for workers in the EU, and the role of the European Commission as a guardian of Article 45 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU and the use of European Programme for Employment and Social Innovation and the European Social Fund in facilitating labor mobility in the EU.

Julius Horvath, professor and head of the Department of Economics, has been named acting dean of CEU Business School, while Julia Buxton, associate dean for academic affairs and programs as well as professor of comparative politics at the School of Public Policy (SPP), has been named acting dean of SPP. Both appointments, made by CEU President and Rector John Shattuck, begin August 1 for a period of one year.

SPP Visiting Professor Kinga Goncz has been appointed by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to a distinguished panel on health technology innovation and access. The panel, which is co-chaired by Ruth Dreifuss, former president of Switzerland, and Festus Mogae, former president of Botswana, has been tasked "to ensure that everyone can access quality treatment at affordable costs while also incentivizing innovation and the development of new technologies such as vaccines, medicines and diagnostics."

Michael Dorsch of the School of Public Policy has been promoted to the rank of associate professor, effective August 1, 2015.
Dorsch is an applied economist whose research and teaching interests are mainly in public economics and political economics. His current research investigates the political economy of development, with a particular interest in the economic causes and consequences of political instability, civil conflict and democratization.
