The Demjan Group, owned by one of Hungary’s most prominent businessman Sandor Demjan, has donated € 1 million to establish a migration fund to support improving conditions for refugee children currently in Hungary or on the borders of the country. The fund will be used to buy food, clothing, finance domestic travel, healthcare and to produce information materials and assist civilians and authorities who are working to resolve the situation. CEU Business School alumna Borbala Czako (IMC'90) has been appointed to chair the fund.

Diana Urge-Vorsatz, professor in CEU’s Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy and director of the Center for Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Policy (3CSEP) has been elected vice chair of Working Group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the the UN body tasked with assessing climate science.

The Center for Religious Studies has awarded Dr. Alba Fedeli (University of Birmingham) the CEU Humanities Initiative Religious Studies Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship, hosted by the Center for Religious Studies. The two-year position commences this September 2015. Fedeli will be conducting research on Early Quranic Manuscripts and their Relationship as Studied through Phylogenetic Software.

Edit Kalman has been appointed Head of Recruitment, effective August 1, 2015. Edit has been working at CEU since 2008 and served as Acting Head of the Student Recruitment Office during the previous academic year.

The Senate approved the appointment of Tibor Varady as Professor Emeritus.
The Senate elected Vlad Naumescu as the new chair of the Ethical Research Committee, succeeding Prem Kumar Rajaram.
The Senate elected Karoly Bard as the new chair of the Disciplinary Committee, succeeding Eva Fodor.
The Senate approved that Andrzej Baniak’s application for the ‘egyetemi tanar’ title be submitted to the Hungarian Accreditation Committee (MAB).

Marcell Sebok, assistant professor in the Department of Medieval Studies at CEU, joins the CEU Senate as junior faculty member. In line with Senate elections guidelines, following the departure of John Harbord, director of CEU's Center for Academic Writing and a junior faculty member on the CEU Senate, President and Rector John Shattuck offered the vacant seat to the person who collected the highest number of votes in the junior faculty category among those not elected in the most recent Senate elections.

Tibor Varady, chair of the International Business Law Program and university professor in the Department of Legal Studies has been appointed to the rank of professor emeritus, effective August 1, 2015. Varady is an internationally-recognized scholar and expert on international commercial arbitration, private international law, and international business transactions. He was on the faculty of the Novi Sad Law School in the former Yugoslavia and served as director of its Center for International Studies for many years.

Michael Dorsch of the School of Public Policy has been promoted to the rank of associate professor, effective August 1, 2015.
Dorsch is an applied economist whose research and teaching interests are mainly in public economics and political economics. His current research investigates the political economy of development, with a particular interest in the economic causes and consequences of political instability, civil conflict and democratization.

Nadia Al-Bagdadi, professor in the Department of History, has been appointed director of the CEU Institute for Advanced Study (CEU IAS), effective August 1, 2015. With this appointment, Al-Bagdadi will take the helm of a very important academic initiative at CEU, bringing her vast academic and leadership experience to this role.
