Several changes and new appointments in the central administration took effect on August 1. “The new organization, which streamlines the central administration by combining several functions and reducing the number of senior positions, will enhance CEU’s capacity to achieve excellence in the pursuit of our open society mission,” said President and Rector John Shattuck.

According to the Academic Staff Handbook, IV.J., "a Review Committee is appointed by the Senate, with the authority to investigate claims that a University policy was not properly applied in the process of promotions and re-appointment. The Review Committee will not consider substantive issues of professional competence or issues which are within the competence of other university bodies." Thomas Skouteris joins the School of Public Policy as Associate Professor in the in the Fall 2014. Skouteris brings to the School a diverse range of legal knowledge from the theory and history of international law, to lawmaking and international criminal justice and will begin teaching at SPP. Previously, he was Associate Professor and Chair at the Law Department of the American University in Cairo. Before Cairo, Skouteris taught for eight years at Leiden University as Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator of the Advanced LLM Degree in Public International Law.

Hungarian President Janos Ader approved John Shattuck’s appointment to a second term as Rector of Kozep-europai Egyetem, CEU's Hungarian entity, an action required according to Hungarian higher education law, on April 18, according to the Magyar Kozlony, the Hungarian Bulletin, official gazette of the Hungarian Government, edited by the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice. Shattuck’s new term extends from August 1, 2014 to July 31, 2019. The confirmation was countersigned by Minister of Human Resources Zoltan Balog on April 24.

Pal Baross, an experienced developer educated in Hungary, Canada, and the UK, has been appointed Director of the Campus Redevelopment Office, which consolidates the position of owner’s representative as well. Baross, who has served for more than a year as an advisor to the Rector and the Chief Operating Officer on all matters related to the campus redevelopment, has experience managing real estate development projects, including in the area of higher education, in Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Asia.

Trisha Tanner joins CEU as Vice President for Development on April 8. She will oversee a comprehensive advancement strategy that supports key University priorities; enhances short- and long-term fundraising capabilities; and effectively leverages CEU’s team of international development professionals. She comes to CEU after serving as Director of Private Sector Initiatives at the International Crisis Group, a Brussels-based NGO dedicated to the prevention and resolution of deadly conflict.

Youngmi Kim, faculty member at the Department of International Relations and European Studies (IRES) and the Department of Public Policy, has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, effective May 1. At CEU, Youngmi teaches courses on East Asia in International Relations and Comparative Regionalism at IRES, and Comparative Political Institutions and Global Cities at DPP. Youngmi also directs the Global E-School Project on Korean Studies in Eurasia (2012-2017), coordinated by CEU and funded by the Korea Foundation.
