CEU’s President and Rector Michael Ignatieff received the International Recognition Award at the Political Studies Association (PSA)’s Annual Awards Ceremony in London on November 29.

CEU received the Digitalization Award 2016 from Siemens Zrt. in recognition of its leadership and accomplishments in using digital technologies to optimize activities across the institution. The prize was presented at the Siemens Gala 2016 at the Varkert Bazar in Budapest on November 24, and was accepted by IT Director Szilard Bedecs. Library Director Diane Geraci was also honored.

Associate Professor Prem Kumar Rajaram of the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology, as well as alumni Aleksander Tarkowski, who graduated from that department in 2007, and Marek Antos, who graduated from the Department of Legal Studies in 2013, have been named to the NewEurope100 list of changemakers in Central and Eastern Europe for their innovative contributions in society and politics.

Alessandro De Chiara, assistant professor in the Department of Economics, was awarded the Goran Skogh Award for young scholars for the most promising paper presented at the 33rd Annual Conference of the European Association of Law and Economics (EALE) in Bologna. The award, given in the memory of Goran Skogh, first President of EALE, aims to encourage outstanding young scholars of law and economics to remain in academia.

At CEU’s 26th Academic Year Opening Ceremony on September 16, 2016, Provost/Pro-Rector Liviu Matei presented the 2016 CEU Award for Outstanding Research to Professor Gergely Harcos of the Department of Mathematics and its Applications for a co-authored paper that solves a fundamental problem on hyperbolic manifolds whose roots are in quantum mechanics and number theory.

Gabor Klaniczay, University Professor at the Department of Medieval Studies, has been awarded the International Prize for History CISH for the excellence of his work. With the insights of historical anthropology, Klaniczay researches the historical uses of heresy, sainthood, visions, stigmatics, magic, and witchcraft. The award will be delivered during the General Assembly of the International Committee of Historical Sciences (CISH) in September 2017 in Moscow.

Exceptional master's and doctoral students were recognized for their academic achievements with awards presented on June 22. The annual Best Dissertation Awards are intended to recognize important scholarly contributions by graduate students. Dissertations from any discipline that are based on significant original research, raise thought-provoking questions in the field, and open up new perspectives are recognized. The University Doctoral Committee aims to reward imaginative research that takes an innovative approach in terms of sources, methodology, and/or research questions.
