This year the Danubius Award was awarded to Bela Greskovits, university professor in the Departments of International Relations and Political Science at CEU. The award was established in 2011 by the Austrian Ministry of Education, Science and Resesearch and the Institute for Danube Region and Central Europe (IDM). The prize was awarded at the Danube Rectors' Conference in Bratislava on November 8. You can read Greskovits's acceptance speech below.

By the decision of the Selection Committee, Professor Andras Sajo and Professor Renata Uitz, from the Department of Legal Studies have been selected as the recipients of the 2018 CEU Award for Outstanding Research. The award recognizes outstanding research by CEU faculty that has had a significant international impact.

The European Association for International Education presented the 2018 Constance Meldrum Award for Vision and Leadership to CEU President and Rector Michael Ignatieff on September 11 in Geneva at the kickoff of its annual conference. The award recognizes CEU's defense of academic freedom in Hungary after legislation targeting the university was introduced in 2017.

Budapest, July 19. – CEU Professor Gergely Csibra has been made a Fellow of the prestigious British Academy for the humanities and social sciences. Professor Csibra (Department of Cognitive Science) was elected to the fellowship in recognition of his work studying the cognitive capacities of infants.

By the decision of the selection committee, Professor Erin Jenne from the Department of International Relations and Associate Professor Tamara Steger from the Department of Environmental Science and Policy have been selected as the recipients of CEU's Distinguished Teaching Award, which recognizes CEU faculty members for promoting high standards of teaching, linked with the mission and institutional ambitions of CEU. The awards will be conferred at the 2018/2019 academic year Opening Ceremony, on September 14, 2018.

CEU President and Rector Michael Ignatieff receives an honorary degree by the University of Edinburgh at a ceremony July 3, 2018. "The Senatus Academicus of this University has resolved to invite you to be admitted to the honorary degree of Doctor of Science in Social Science for your championship of liberal values as an academic, writer, and journalist," wrote Professor Sir Timothy O'Shea, principal and vice-chancellor of the University of Edinburgh, in a letter informing Ignatieff of the honor.

In recognition of the University's communications campaigns in response to the attack on its academic freedom, CEU has been awarded the Council of Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Circle of Excellence Gold Award in the Crisis Communications category. CASE, founded in 1974, is a membership association serving educational institutions and the advancement professionals who work on their behalf in alumni relations, communications, development, marketing and allied areas.

Founded in 1780, the Academy honors exceptional scholars, leaders, artists, and innovators and engages them in sharing knowledge and addressing challenges facing the world.
