CEU alumna Yuliya Voytenko (ENVSCI PhD ‘07) has been granted SEK 3 million from FORMAS (the Swedish Research Council) for a 3-year research project, entitled Sharing and the City (2016-2018). Voytenko is currently a researcher at the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE), a MESPOM Consortium partner.

Co-directors of CEU’s Center for Policy Studies Viola Zentai and Andrew Cartwright have joined the international research network Overcoming Inequalities in Schools and Learning Communities: Innovative Education for a New Century (SALEACOM). SALECOM aims to address educational and social exclusion in schools and learning communities through a number of academic exchanges. The project activities will be implemented in 36 months with a total € 391,500 funding from the European Commission's H2020 Programme.

CEU’s Center for Network Science has acquired a grant from the US Air Force Office of Scientific Research for a research project entitled "Quantifying Scientific Performance and Success in the Physics Community."

The Center for Policy Studies (CPS) at CEU has joined the project entitled “Enhancing the EU's Transboundary Crisis Management Capacities: Strategies for Multi-Level Leadership (TransCrisis).” The project, led by the London School of Economics, runs between 2015-2017 with a total €2,28 million funding from the European Commission's H2020 Programme.

Tijana Krstic, associate professor in the Department of Medieval Studies at CEU, won a European Research Council Consolidator Grant. The Ottoconfession project will explore how and why the Ottoman Empire evolved from a fourteenth-century polity where “confessional ambiguity” between Sunnism and Shiism prevailed, into an Islamic state concerned with defining and enforcing a “Sunni orthodoxy” by the early sixteenth century.
Pro-Rector’s Office Announces CEU Humanities Initiative Grant Winners and Calls for New Applications

As part of CEU's commitment to both the humanities and interdisciplinary teaching and research, the University launched a Humanities Initiative in spring 2014. The Initiative provides incentives for new cross-departmental and interdisciplinary research and teaching activities in the humanities, and to infuse CEU social science programs with perspectives, approaches and accomplishments taken from the humanities.

Co-director of CEU’s Center for Policy Studies Viola Zentai and Research Fellow Zsuzsanna Arendas will participate in Industrial Relations in Multilingual Environments at Work (IR-MultiLing), a research project funded by the European Commission's Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion for their project Industrial Relations in Multilingual Environments at Work (IR-MultiLing).

Students are familiar with course and professor evaluations but some might not have had the opportunity to give mid-course feedback that could improve their learning experience. CEU Associate Professor of Environmental Sciences and Policy Tamara Steger wanted to see what kind of difference it could make, so she applied for and won a CEU Teaching Development Grant and is working on the project in consultation with the University's Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL).

Professors Gabor Klaniczay and Jozsef Laszlovszky from the Department of Medieval Studies at CEU won a DAAD- (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdiens) and MOB- (Hungarian Scholarship Board) funded academic cooperation grant of €13,000 and HUF783,000, respectively, for student and faculty mobility with the Research Center on Comparative History of Religious Orders at the Technical University of Dresden. The grant will allow for a two-week scholarship in Dresden for 12 PhD students from the department, with CEU hosting a similar scholarship for students from Dresden.

The Ford Foundation has awarded CEU a $350,000 grant to further expand the University's work on promoting access, rights, and justice for Europe's most marginalized community, the Roma. CEU's Roma programs include the CEU Roma Access Programs (RAP), initiated with Ford Foundation funding in 2004, and a new University-wide initiative for Roma advancement and inclusion.
