From November 26 to 30, alumni contributed to the future of this institution, via global alumni meet-ups, on-campus events that included a special Alumni Donors Reception, and an online campaign. Seven Alumni Scholarship Recipients took action to make a difference and get some hands-on experience in giving back, by forming CEU’s first Student Philanthropy Council. The council’s mission is simple: find new and fun ways to raise funds and educate the community about the importance of philanthropy.

Nearly 200 members of the CEU community – students and alumni, faculty and staff – came together this month to learn just how sweet fundraising for good causes can be. As part of CEU's fourth annual Philanthropy Day, on Friday, November 11, the community raised more than 180,000 HUF in support of student scholarships and refugee assistance.

CEU’s international student body represents 107 countries across five continents. Such diversity is integral to the University’s mission to foster democracy and open society throughout the world. To ensure that all students, especially those from developing countries or regions in turmoil, have equitable access to a world-class graduate education, CEU has developed a robust scholarship program, with around 85% of students receiving financial assistance.

Alumnus Konstantin Kurganov (Ukraine, LEGS ’94) made CEU history by donating $30,000 in matching funds to the Alumni Campaign, ceu|next. This is unprecedented—the largest single gift to the campaign from a CEU graduate, to support the future of our university. “Coming to CEU was the one great chance in my life. I want other people to be able to study here, as I did, and have a better future, Kurganov explained his commitment to CEU.
