Carved red marble blocks, fragments of tile, stained pieces of wrought iron – these are a few of the “archaeological finds” at the construction site of the new CEU building at Nador utca 15. Students in CEU’s Cultural Heritage Studies Program visited the site in March, uncovering these gems from another era in the history of downtown Budapest.

“The couple, having met at the University of Dublin and currently teaching there, has been managing their own firm for 27 years, and they have considerable experience in the construction of university buildings: among their numerous works stands out the recently inaugurated, red-brick London School of Economics. The new building of CEU in Budapest, endowed with a glass-window façade, and designed in cooperation with the Hungarian M-Teampannon architectural office, will be an extension to the school’s headquarters in Nador Street.”

The final stages of the demolition of Nador 15 are underway; the facade is currently being taken down. As a result, colleagues may experience minor delays to pedestrian traffic while passing by the construction site. During the removal of the facade, the street in front of N15 and N13 has been cordoned off at both ends and a temporary protection screen has been lowered in front of N15 to provide protection from dust and rubble towards the street. This process is due to be completed no later than the weekend of March 7.
