Top 10 Application Tips for Graduate Applicants

January 25, 2023

Are you looking to apply to master’s or PhD program at CEUOr have you already started the application process?

Here’s a checklist to help answer any questions that may come up as you complete your application.

  1. Start by reviewing our Application Checklist, which walks you through the entire process.

  2. Click here for videos on how to write a powerful research proposal, impress us with your statement of purpose and make your application stand out. Further, watch ourstudents’ top 10 application tips  and read a current MA student’s guide to research proposals

  3. Double-check our departmental website to ensure you've collected all the required general and program-specific admissions documents.

  4. Watch our webinars to hear directly from CEU students and professors. You can also chat with current students and alumni on Unibuddy about anything and everything student-related.

  5. Your referees have seven days to upload their confidential letters of recommendation once your application and your application fee have been received by us. Please note that a separate set of recommendation letters is required for every application you submit.

  6. You can track the status of your references via the Applicant Portal. If your referee has not received the notification email with a link to the reference form, ask them to check their promotions and spam folders. If this doesn’t solve the issue, you should remove and re-register them on the Applicant Portal.

  7. If you don't have your final academic records yet, don't worry. We can accept an interim transcript and certificate of enrollment from your university. Just remember that all non-English language documents should be translated and certified by the issuing institution or a registered translator.

  8. Your application must be complete with the required language and program-specific test scores. If you can’t attach a valid score report to your application by the deadline, upload proof that you have taken a test.

  9. After you’ve submitted your (first) application, don’t forget to pay the application fee of EUR 30. This fee cannot be waived, but the good news is that you only need to pay it once in each admission cycle, no matter how many programs you're applying to (up to five). Third-party payment is also possible. Make sure to press the “submit” button on your application before making a payment though.

Remember to hit the “submit” button and pay the application fee on time as the final step. You will get a confirmation email from Flywire once the payment has been submitted. When we have received the payment (which can take up to 5-10 working days), you will get a final confirmation from the CEU Application Platform.

  10. Applying for a scholarship? Make sure to submit your application by February 1, 2023, 23:59 Central European Time.  If you’re a Master’s candidate, remember to complete the Funding section of the application form to be considered for CEU Master’s Scholarships and Tuition AwardsIf you’re applying to a PhD program, just apply by the financial aid deadline and you’ll be automatically considered for the CEU Doctoral Scholarship. If you’re interested in additional funding options such as the Alumni Scholarship, make sure to submit your application materials by February 1.

What’s next? You can easily track the status of your application in the Applicant Portal. If we need any further materials from you, we’ll ask you to submit them through this portal as well.
