The European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending €25 million to Central European University (CEU) to upgrade its campus located in the historic center of the Hungarian capital Budapest.
The EIB loan will finance the University’s urban campus development project comprising the renovation and construction of approximately 39,000 m2 of teaching, conference and research facilities. The project consolidates the University's academic and administrative entities on a single and cohesive campus with sufficient space and up-to-date facilities for students and staff.

Budapest, Sept. 15, 2016 – Today Central European University opens two state-of-the-art buildings in downtown Budapest, offering high-tech space for learning, teaching, research, and the exchange of ideas in line with the University’s commitment to open debate and community engagement. The two buildings, one of which retains its historic façade and interior elements, and both of which feature green technology, represent the completion of Phase I of a three-phase campus redevelopment project.

Budapest, July 8, 2015 – Central European University's new campus design has been granted “Very Good” status by BREEAM officials, making it the second higher education institution in continental Europe and the first in Central and Eastern Europe to receive this distinction. BREEAM principles – the world's leading design and assessment method for sustainable buildings – were used in the design in order to support CEU’s commitment to sustainability. Budapest, Dec. 3, 2014 – Central European University has announced that it will begin construction on the redevelopment of its campus in January 2015. The redevelopment project has been designed by award-winning, Dublin-based architectural firm O'Donnell & Tuomey in tandem with Hungarian partner M-Teampannon. The project involves renovation and new construction of approximately 35,000 square meters at the downtown campus.
