As work to CEU's Vienna campus enters its final phase, the CEU letters are affixed to the top of the building in Quellenstrasse.
CEU’s new campus buildings in Nador utca 13 and 15 rank among the best in the world, since they were shortlisted for one of the world’s most prestigious architecture awards, the Royal Institute of British Architects’ RIBA International Prize. CEU’s buildings are among just 4 finalists for the award.
In recognition of the University's communications campaigns in response to the attack on its academic freedom, CEU has been awarded the Council of Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Circle of Excellence Gold Award in the Crisis Communications category. CASE, founded in 1974, is a membership association serving educational institutions and the advancement professionals who work on their behalf in alumni relations, communications, development, marketing and allied areas.
CEU received the Hungarian Construction Industry’s Award for Excellence on March 27 in a ceremony at the University's Nador 13 and Nador 15 buildings.
"When I first entered these buildings as the new rector of CEU, I said 'wow!' remarked President and Rector Michael Ignatieff at the award ceremony. "And I still say 'wow.'” He also emphasized the difficulties of organizing construction in the middle of the city in a World Heritage Zone, but expressed his hope that CEU made a remarkable contribution to the Budapest cityscape with its new campus.
Phase 1 of Central European University’s campus redevelopment project won both a Civic Trust Award and received the National Panel Special Award as the favorite scheme of the National Panel members from this year’s Civic Trust Awards winning projects. The award was received by architects John Tuomey and Sheila O'Donnell, Teampannon, and the CEU Campus Redevelopment Office.
CEU's new Nador 13 and Nador 15 buildings received an honorable mention award in the annual architecture competition held by the Chamber of Hungarian Architects, with the support of the City of Budapest. The competition aims to recognize significant architectural contributions to the cityscape and demonstrate the exemplary cooperation among partners that is necessary for high-quality design and execution.

CEU's new buildings, designed by Irish architecture firm O'Donnell & Tuomey, won the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Award for the Best International Project 2017.
RIAI announced the winners of 2017 RIAI Architecture Awards at a ceremony in Dublin’s Mansion House on June 23. The awards celebrate the quality of work carried out by RIAI members in 2016 and highlight the contribution that architects make to society for everyone’s benefit.
