A group of students participating in CEU and Bard College’s joint master’s-level Advanced Certificate in Inequality Analysis program have visited CEU’s campus. The week-long series of classes and lectures provided participants with a number of unique academic opportunities delivered as part of the exchange between the universities.

Central European University’s MS in Business Analytics program is the best in Central Europe, including Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, according to the latest Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings’ QS Business Masters Rankings report released September 25. CEU’s program ranked 50th in the world, QS said. Regional rankings were not issued separately - they are derived from the overall rankings.

Kristina Simonyan, Balazs Kelemen, Katherine Yakimetz, Xian Ken Chen, students from the MS in Finance program, represented CEU at the Rotman European Trading Competition, hosted by LUISS Guido Carli University of Rome, August 23-25. The competition aims to give students the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge to actual markets and allows teams from schools across Europe to participate in a simulated market.

Botond Koszegi of the Department of Economics and Business has been promoted to a rank of University Professor, effective December 1, 2017. In 2015, Koszegi won the Yrjo Jahnsson Award for his contribution to the theoretical foundations of behavioral economics, and its application to public finance and contract theory. He also received the CEU Award for Outstanding Research the same year.

As part of the Intellectual Themes Initiative, CEU offers four new joint PhD positions this year. The new doctoral programs are interdepartmental: the admitted students are expected to take courses from both participating units and conduct research at the crossroads of those disciplines. 1. For almost a decade the Department of Economics and Business at CEU has participated in a joint fellowship program with Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education – Economics Institute, Prague (CERGE-EI). So far, thirty-five CEU advanced doctoral students and recent graduates have benefitted from the opportunities provided by this cooperation, teaching at Eotvos Lorand University (ELTE) Corvinus University and Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
