Diana Urge-Vorsatz, professor in CEU’s Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy and director of the Center for Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Policy (3CSEP) has been elected vice chair of Working Group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the the UN body tasked with assessing climate science.

The International Scientific Conference “Our Common Future under Climate Change” took place at UNESCO and UPMC (Paris) from July 7-10. The four-day conference was the largest forum for the scientific community to come together ahead of the 21st UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP21), which will be hosted by France in December 2015 (“Paris Climat 2015”). Building on the results of IPCC 5th Assessment Report (AR5), the Conference addressed key issues concerning climate change in the broader context of global change.

Students are familiar with course and professor evaluations but some might not have had the opportunity to give mid-course feedback that could improve their learning experience. CEU Associate Professor of Environmental Sciences and Policy Tamara Steger wanted to see what kind of difference it could make, so she applied for and won a CEU Teaching Development Grant and is working on the project in consultation with the University's Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL).

U.S. Ambassador to Hungary Colleen Bell opened a climate change event at CEU Feb. 2, introducing Andrew Gillespie of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Gillespie said science backs up the fact that humans have adversely affected the climate and that the changes are happening at a rapid and alarming pace.

MESPOM, a European Commission-supported Erasmus Mundus Masters program in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management operated by CEU, three other leading European universities and two North American universities, turns 10 years old this year. Aleh Cherp, professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy and MESPOM Consortium coordinator recalls how MESPOM started out 10 years ago as one of the first Erasmus Mundus (EM) Masters programs.
