Hungarian women’s weekly Nok Lapja, in an article about wartime rape, asked for expert commentary from Andrea Peto, professor at CEU’s Department of Gender Studies. Peto explained how data about the victims is collected by historians, how society handled the situation of mothers and children born as a result of rape during World War II, and warns about the potential negative consequences of disclosing the identity of those involved as the burden to carry is heavy and the number of such victims in Hungary is above 40,000.
