"Being at CEU is the best thing that has ever happened to me because its somewhere I can experience the different cultures of the world, and also share my own culture with the world.
Once I heard of a place where a single community can represent the rest of the world, I couldn't wait to be part of it. I feel at home at CEU and so will you. I am in love with my new home and identity that I’ve found at CEU.

The number of visitors at CEU during the European Heritage Days held on September 15 and 16 more than doubled compared to last year, with our youngest and most active audience so far.
CEU joined the Cultural Heritage Days for the sixth time in 2018 to showcase its built heritage to the broader community as well as the CEU community. CEU originally advertised eight guided tours in English and in Hungarian, three concerts, an exhibition, and an urban game, but due to the high turnout twice as many guided tours had to be started.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend and CEU colleague Marianne Saghy, founding faculty member of the Department of Medieval Studies, on September 21. Marianne taught and wrote in her chosen field of late antique and medieval cult of saints and religious culture, with a passion that easily drew the interest of her students and colleagues. She will be sorely missed.

Photographs of decorated vehicles by Konstantin Novakovic, alumnus of the Cultural Heritage Studies Program at CEU, are now on display in the Atrium of CEU’s Nador 13 building. For his MA thesis, “Art on Wheels: Vehicular Art of Indian Subcontinent as a Form of Intangible Cultural Heritage” Novakovic traveled to the region and now exhibits the photos he took during his fieldwork, complemented by summaries of Novakovic’s original research.

Central European University (CEU) announces that University Professor Gabor Klaniczay, founding faculty of the Department of Medieval Studies, has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Founded in 1780, the Academy honors exceptional scholars, leaders, artists, and innovators and engages them in sharing knowledge and addressing challenges facing the world.

The Department of Medieval Studies at CEU celebrated its 25th anniversary by inviting the public to "Visit the Middle Ages." With a knight in full armor, nomadic warriors demonstrating their skills with sabre and lance, noblewomen and peasants showing crafts from painting to papermaking, ceramics to glass, medicine to clothing, CEU's Nador 13 Atrium building was transformed into a medieval fair.

“The Future of Roma Cultural Heritage,” the first event in Budapest held by the European Roma Institute of Arts and Culture (ERIAC), featured a lively exchange of knowledge and experience among experts from academia and the arts. The event was co-organized by ERIAC, CEU’s Romani Studies Program, and the European Union-funded "Re-designing Access to European Cultural Heritage" (REACH) project at Eotvos Lorand University (ELTE).

Gyorgy Gereby, associate professor in CEU's Department of Medieval Studies, is delivering the Isaiah Berlin Lectures at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Oxford this semester as part of the Isaiah Berlin Visiting Professorship, which brings leading scholars in the history of philosophy or history of ideas to Oxford. Named after the great British philosopher and founding president of Wolfson College, Sir Isaiah Berlin, the lectures were established in 2004.

Piruza Hayrapetyan, currently a PhD candidate at CEU's Department of Medieval Studies after receiving her MA at the department in 2015, received the best conference paper award from the Society of Armenian Studies. Hayrapetyan’s paper addressed the literary context of Ganjs, Armenian hymns dedicated to church feasts and saints that were recited and sung in the Armenian Divine Office. Hayrapetyan is also an exchange fellow at the Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies at the University of Vienna.
