Simon Rippon, who holds a joint appointment in the Department of Philosophy and the School of Public Policy has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, effective December 1, 2016, based on the recommendation of the Provost supported by the Reappointment and Promotion Committee.

The large turnout at the public panel on "Philosophy, the refugee crisis, and how to help in Hungary," hosted by CEU’s Department of Philosophy on September 22, indicated a keen interest across CEU in helping refugees and migrants, as well as in philosophical analysis of political debates about migration policy.

Maria Kronfeldner, associate professor in the Department of Philosophy, has won a CEU Humanities Initiative grant for her project, entitled Establishing Topics in the Philosophy of the Humanities and Social Sciences (ToPHSS).

Teaching is an essential element of a career in academia and so acquiring teaching experience is a very important part of the training for such a career. Launched in March 2015, Global Learning Fellowship is a CEU initiative administered by the Academic Cooperation and Research Support Office (ACRO) aimed at helping CEU PhD students and recently graduated alumni improve their teaching skills.

CEU earned the best rankings in its history in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) subject ranking, published April 29. CEU's programs related to politics and international studies jumped to 29th in the world, and 7th in Europe.

PhD student in the Department of Philosophy Isik Sarihan’s project, entitled "The Internalist-Intentionalist Research Program" was awarded a year of funding by the Swiss Sciex-NMS-Ch program. According to the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) rankings, released Feb. 26, CEU’s programs in politics and international studies, as well as philosophy, scored among the best in the world again in 2014. CEU is the only university in Hungary with programs among the top 100 in the 2014 subject rankings.
