Szabo has been doing research focusing on the interplay between urban restructuring and ethnic diversity in a Central Eastern European context.

CEU earned the best rankings in its history in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) subject ranking, published April 29. CEU's programs related to politics and international studies jumped to 29th in the world, and 7th in Europe.
