The department was founded in Budapest in 2004 as an endeavor to cross-fertilize Sociology and Social Anthropology. In the eleventh year of its existence it presents itself as a successful project and leading institution in this field, attracting faculty and students from across several disciplines and all parts of the world.

The Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology at Central European University in Budapest welcomes paper proposals for its annual graduate conference, taking place June 3-4, 2016. The deadline for submitting proposals is April 10, 2016.
This year’s conference title is On the Edge: Genealogies and Futures of Precarity.
