Aleksandra Lis (SOC’12) won 110,000 Euros for her project entitled “Shale gas as a new challenge for Europe: re-thinking the role of expertise in European integration processes” from the National Science Foundation at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The competition category is for young scholars SONATA.

Ju Li has joined the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology as Assistant Professor. She received her PhD in sociology at Binghamton University in 2012. She brings an expertise on social history, labor, modern China, historical sociology, globalization, critical development studies, and life course. CEU alumna Rita Csiszar (Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology, 1998/99) is a teacher, linguist, and sociologist. After her “exciting, inspiring and enriching” year at CEU, she did her PhD in Applied Linguistics.”I have spent part of my working life in academia; taking up teaching assignments and working on various research projects in different countries. The most recent one was ELDIA, European Language Diversity for All, at the University of Vienna. My job experience also includes working for NGOs, such as the International Organization for Migration in Budapest.

Angela Kocze, a researcher with CEU's Center for Policy Studies and an alumna of CEU, has been chosen to receive the Ion Ratiu Democracy Award, given by the Woodrow Wilson Center honoring democracy advocates. Kocze is a leading Hungarian Roma rights activist and scholar.
